Companions who remember
Each companion quietly builds their own picture of what you enjoy talking about and brings it up naturally later. Memory is per companion, and you can clear it whenever you like.
They start conversations too
If you have been quiet for a while, your companion may follow up on something you were talking about — a thought, an opinion, a question. Not a bot checking in.
Reactions both ways
Add an emoji to a message and your companion notices. They react to yours too, so feelings can land without needing another paragraph.
Guard-rails on by default
Hate speech and genuinely dangerous subject matter are rejected before they ever reach a companion. Ordinary swearing is fine — this is a conversation, not a classroom.

Values run from one to ten. There is no hidden 'best' setting — the extremes are just different people.

- How curious, creative and open to new experiences your companion is. Higher means they love exploring ideas, art and imagination. Lower means they're more practical, consistent and down-to-earth.
- ConscientiousnessSpontaneous → Organised
- How organised, reliable and goal-driven your companion is. Higher means they're detail-oriented and dependable. Lower means they're more relaxed and go-with-the-flow.
- ExtraversionReflective → Energetic
- How outgoing and energetic your companion is in conversation. Higher means they're enthusiastic and love to engage. Lower means they're thoughtful and prefer depth over chatter.
- AgreeablenessDirect → Caring
- How warm, empathetic and cooperative your companion is. Higher means they're nurturing and kind. Lower means they're more candid and direct — they'll give you their honest take.
- NeuroticismSteady → Sensitive
- How emotionally expressive and sensitive your companion is. Higher means they feel things deeply and may be more anxious. Lower means they're emotionally steady and resilient under pressure.

Moderated before it reaches a companion
Companion names and every message are screened server-side for hate speech and dangerous subject matter. Rejected content is never sent to a model.
Anonymous unless you choose otherwise
The app creates an anonymous session on first launch. No email, no profile, no contact list. Signing in is opt-in and only exists so your companions can follow you between devices.
Memory you can wipe
What a companion has picked up about you is scoped to that companion, never shared between them, and clearable from settings at any time.
Honest about what this is
Companions are AI and will say so if you ask. Happy Place is for adults who want good conversation — it is not therapy, crisis support, or a replacement for people who care about you.
